state-of-the-art Engineering and Design
of fired and unfired Heat Transfer Equipment
for power, refinery, oil & gas, petrochemical, energy and Process industries

AT Engineering Services is a registered, State of California, professional engineering consulting firm with capability of providing in-depth innovative quality consulting services that are based on the most current technologies available. We provide state-of-the-art designs and engineering services in mechanical, process, and chemical engineering fields.

We use exclusive in-house developed computer programs for rating & design of Fired Heaters, Heat Exchangers, and Boilers. Commercial programs like FRNC-5, TDST, ProVESSEL, COMPRESS, are also available on a fee basis.

Heat Exchanger Types: various exchanger design configurations per current industry, TEMA and ASME standards & Codes: Shell & Tube, Rodbaffle, twisted tube, Frame & Plate Heat Exchangers, etc.

Furnace types: Heater of various configurations and different applications can be designed, including but not limited to: Atmospheric or / and Vacuum Crude, Platformers, Reboilers, Circulating Oil Heaters, Cokers and Vis Breakers, Steam Superheaters, Reformers and Cracking Furnaces. Beside the heaters, programs can be used for Waste Heat Boilers & Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) per API 534. Centrifugal Fans per API 560 - Appendix E.

Thermal Design and Rating of new or existing furnaces.
Mechanical design per API 560, API RP 530 and ASME Codes as
applicable. Air Preheat Systems for Fired Process Heaters per API
      560 - Appendix F.

Fired Heater Thermal Efficiency Evaluation per API 560 - Appendix G.
All services, all firebox and coil geometries and for any fuels.

Burners per API 535 and Complete Combustion Analysis.
Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) can be developed for SCR systems.
Detail drawings (designs) of the furnaces from your design.

State-Of-The-Art Applied Heat Transfer Seminars

Industrial Heat Exchangers

Date: June 4, 5, and 6, 2008 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Place: Long Beach, CA.

This course is designed for engineers, supervisors, operators, designers, engineering consultants, project engineers and managers, those who involved in design, engineering, maintenance, operation, and safety of the heat transfer & process equipment.

The three-day short course will cover the elements of thermal and mechanical design of the heat exchangers. All types and industrial / process applications will be discussed. Modern types, such as: Twisted Tube, Advanced Welded Plate, and RODbaffle heat exchangers will be discussed. Corrosion, Fouling, Maldistribution of fluid flow, tube vibration and material selection issues, also numerical examples will be presented. Applicable current industry, TEMA & ASME codes and standards are covered. Also, a PC program such as TDST +(Thermal Design of Shell and Tube Exchangers) will be used for design and rating purposes for Tube-and-Shell heat exchangers. Beside HTRI++ and other software for thermal design and rating of Shell-and-Tube heat exchangers, TDST+ has become, also, one of the most advanced, efficient, accurate and practical software. The input sheet format is self explanatory and user-friendly, therefore, the results of the optimization of the exchanger size will be obtained fast. A comprehensive guide to purchasing a heat exchanger will be presented, which includes information on type selection, purchase specification, evaluating bid proposals, inspection and testing.

Fee: $995.-

Day 1: Introduction, type and classifications of heat exchangers and their applications, modes of heat transfer, tubular & plate heat exchangers, thermal and mechanical design issues.

Day 2: Degradation of performance, introduction to codes and standards, preparation of specifications, Evaluating bid proposals, selecting the right exchanger, inspection, testing, numerical examples, introduction to computer analysis of exchangers.

Day 3: Introduction to TDST+ software, design and rating of Tube-and-Shell exchangers per software for various industrial & process applications, discussion of the results

+:TDST developed by Simulation Heat Transfer, Missouri City, Texas
++: HTRI developed by Heat Transfer Research Inc., College Station, Texas

Thermal & Mechanical Design
of Fired Process Heaters

Date: June 25, 26, and 27, 2008 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Place: Long Beach, CA.

This course is designed for engineers, supervisors, operators, designers, engineering consultants, project engineers and managers, those who involved in design, engineering, maintenance, operation, and safety of the heat transfer & process equipment.

The three-day short course will cover the elements of thermal, process and mechanical design of direct fired heaters. Furnace types: Heater of various configurations and different applications will be discussed, including but not limited to: Atmospheric or / and Vacuum Crude, Platformers, Reboilers, Circulating Oil Heaters, Cokers and Vis Breakers, Steam Superheaters, Reformers and Cracking Furnaces. This course will show how vendor specifications should be developed (including API Fired Heaters Data Sheets. Also, will review safety and environmental issues. Thermal Design and Rating of new or existing furnaces, Mechanical design per API 560, API RP 530 and ASME Codes as applicable, Air Preheat Systems, Fired Heater Thermal Efficiency Evaluation, Burners, and Complete Combustion Analysis will be discussed. Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems will be developed. A widely used PC program FRNC-5PC+ will be used for design and rating purposes.

Fee: $1095.-

Day 1: Introduction to process heaters, discussion of terminology, design and rating of Radiant, Convection and Shield sections, process & gas side pressure drop calculations, draft and stack calculations, overview of refractory systems

Day 2: Energy conservation techniques including Air-preheat systems, system optimization, emission abatement systems, burners, tube supports, material selection, Introduction to current API & industry codes and standards, heater specification per API Data Sheet, Operations & Troubleshooting, Instrumentation and Control basics, Inspection, soot blowers, introduction to computer analysis of heaters.
